Real knife attacks are deadly, frenzied, and hard to stop!

Movies and video games have glamorized the knife and given us a broken view of what knife-attacks look like.  We've all seen the martial arts blockbuster where the protagonist, a character with years of training, disarms and destroys attackers who are fighting him with knives. This is just not what happens in reality..

Altercations with knives are unpredictable, fast, and often result in deadly consequences.  You almost never have time to draw a weapon and even if you do, you've been stuck once or twice before you can counter attack.

The attacker requires almost NO SKILL to kill you, but you need all the skill in the world to self-rescue.

Being able to predict, react, and crush your enemy and knowing how to use a blade of your own to save your own life is our objective.

And, it starts with Combative Edge.

This training gives you more than technique. It gives you the mindset to have confidence in chaos. You WILL be able to stop deadly knife attacks as well as having competency with your own blade.

The WHAT: Our entry level Edged Weapons class. On Day 1, you will learn the realities of surviving an edged weapon attack. The vast majority of knife attacks are AMBUSH ATTACKS. This means that there is a high probability that when one happens, you won’t have your weapon system deployed in time. Learning to STOP the attack using devastating empty hand counter-attacks is the goal of Day 1.

Day 2 gets into the meat and potatoes of our edged-weapon fighting system. You will learn important blade-centric skills like the best places to wear and conceal one, grip positions, body postures, and angles of attack. Students will be drilled on fixed blade and folding-knife deployment, footwork, and agility which will be pressure-tested in peer-to-peer sparring and micro-fights with role-players.

Based on the RIVE Knife Combat System, we’ve taken the BEST techniques from multiple knife-fighting disciplines to create an effective, intuitive, and easy-to-learn system that you can use the day you leave the class. Combative Edge is more than just a martial system, it is an experience.

The WHY: Knife attacks are brutal, unpredictable, and deadly. The anatomy of a knife fight differs vastly from that of a gunfight. Knives are widely available and people can get them at anytime. They can be purchased for under $5.00 and never runs out of ammo, but could end your life just as surely as a bullet can. Learning to better predict and stop a knife attack ups your chances at surviving one exponentially.

Knife-carry is commonplace with self-defenders. Chances are that if you EDC, you carry one. With so many that carry a blade on them every day, so few actually know how to fight with it. We believe if you carry a tool that can be used for self-defense, you should be responsible and proficient with it.

Real Moments Where This Training Makes a Difference

Cornered in a Crowd

A drunken confrontation escalates fast inside a packed bar. The other person pulls a blade while nobody notices. You’re inches away with no clean line of escape.

Do you panic? Or do you take control?

Robbery or Murder

You’re suddenly cornered by a man with an uneasy, shaky expression. He seems unstable and unpredictable. He produces a small folding knife from his coat pocket and closes the distance before saying “don’t move.”

Do you comply or act?  Will this be a routine robbery or your final moments?

Alley Confrontation After You Park

You’re walking with your partner behind a restaurant. Someone yells out that you took his parking spot and follows to confront you. After a brief back-and-forth, they have had enough and break a bottle. You have your pocket knife you use for work.

Are you prepared to defend yourself and your loved one?
